Why create a will?
Wills are a valuable document for a number of reasons:
You can ensure your assets are divided as you would want them to be
You can help to prevent family disputes and minimise legal challenges
To make things easier for your loved ones
To ensure any tax obligations are prepared for in advance
You could potentially reduce the tax burden on your assets
To ensure friends and non-married partners can inherit from you
To ensure childcare arrangements are in place
Our approach to wills and probate
At Malcolm & Co Solicitors LLP, we take a personalised approach to will writing and probate. Our team works closely with you to understand your unique circumstances and ensure that your will reflects your wishes accurately. For probate matters, we handle everything from obtaining the grant of probate to managing the distribution of assets, always keeping you informed and supported. Our expertise in legal processes and regulations ensures that your case is handled efficiently and with the utmost care, giving you confidence in the outcome.
Our current fees
Drafting a Simple Will where the total estate is less than £325,000 is £630, including VAT. Where the total estate is over £325,000, this is £2,520, including VAT (other fees may apply).

For probate, we charge based on the value of the estate, and rates vary depending on this value. For example, where the value of the estate is up to £1m and involves a deceased spouse transferring his/her estate to the surviving spouse, the fee would be 0.5% of the gross estate.
